Policies

Field Standard is an informational publication. We summarize published preclinical literature for general education; we provide no medical advice, no human-use guidance, and no products. The documents below describe how we treat your data, what you may do with our work, and where our responsibility ends.

Privacy Policy

Field Standard is a reading site. It is not a service you log into, and it is engineered to know as little about you as a website reasonably can. This policy describes the small amount of information that passes through our hands when you read, write to us, or subscribe.

Information We Collect

If you simply read the site, we collect nothing that identifies you: no account, no registration, no profile. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in the message. If you subscribe to the newsletter, we hold the email address you provided, the date you subscribed, and nothing else.

Cookies and Analytics

This site sets no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking cookies of any kind. We measure readership with a self-hosted, privacy-respecting analytics setup that records aggregate page views and referrers without cookies, without fingerprinting, and without collecting IP addresses in identifiable form. There are no ad trackers on these pages, and we conduct no cross-site behavioral tracking. We would rather know less about our readers than build the apparatus to know more.

How We Use Information

Email addresses are used for exactly one purpose: sending the newsletter you asked for, or replying to the letter you sent. Aggregate readership figures are used to decide what to write next. That is the complete list.

What We Don't Do

  • We do not sell, rent, trade, or share reader information with anyone.
  • We do not run advertising, and therefore share nothing with ad networks.
  • We do not build profiles, score readers, or segment audiences.
  • We do not send marketing email beyond the newsletter you requested.

Third-Party Services

We keep third parties to a minimum. Web fonts are served through a public font CDN, which receives a standard page request when you load the site; readers who block third-party fonts will see the same content in system typefaces. Our email provider processes addresses solely to deliver the newsletter. No third party receives data for its own purposes.

Data Retention

Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe, which you can do by replying to any issue. Correspondence is retained as part of our editorial record — corrections correspondence indefinitely, since it underpins the public ledger; other letters for two years, after which they are deleted.

Your Rights

You may ask to see, correct, or delete any information we hold about you by writing to hello@fieldstandard.review. Because we hold so little, these requests are usually answered in a single reply. We honor access and deletion rights regardless of where you live.

Children's Privacy

Field Standard is written for adult readers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has subscribed to the newsletter, write to us and we will remove the address.

International Readers

Our small operation is based in the United States, and information you send us is processed there. Readers in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and elsewhere retain the rights described above; our data practices are deliberately minimal enough that compliance is mostly a matter of doing what we already do.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the change will be noted here with a new date, and announced in the newsletter before it takes effect. We will never quietly expand what we collect.

Terms of Use

Acceptable Use

You may read, link to, quote briefly with attribution, and share our pages freely. You may not scrape the site at a volume that degrades service for others, misrepresent our content as your own, or reproduce our articles in a context that presents them as medical advice or product promotion. Anyone found framing our literature summaries as usage guidance will hear from us, and we mean that.

Intellectual Property

Articles, the Library summaries, and the Field Standard name and mark are our property. Brief quotation with clear attribution and a link is welcomed and requires no permission.

Republication

For republication of complete articles — in print, in newsletters, or in syndication — write to editors@fieldstandard.review. We generally grant non-commercial republication requests that preserve the full text, including scope notes and disclaimers, intact.

User Submissions

Letters, pitches, and corrections you send us remain yours. By sending them, you grant us permission to read them and, in the case of published corrections or letters, to quote them with attribution. We will never publish your name in connection with a correction request without asking.

No Warranty

The site is provided as is. We work hard to summarize the literature accurately, but we make no warranty — express or implied — about completeness, timeliness, or fitness for any purpose. Scientific literature changes; our summaries are snapshots with dates on them.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Field Standard and its contributors are not liable for any damages arising from use of, or inability to use, this site or reliance on its content. If you make a decision that matters, make it on the primary literature and qualified professional advice, not on any summary — ours included.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Field Standard and its contributors from claims arising out of your misuse of the site, including any republication of our content stripped of its scope notes or framed as medical or usage guidance.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remainder continues in force.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan. Any dispute arising from them will be heard in the state or federal courts of Washtenaw County, Michigan.

Changes to Terms

Material changes to these terms will be posted on this page with a new revision date. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance.

Medical Disclaimer

Field Standard is an informational publication. Everything on this site is a summary or criticism of published preclinical literature — experiments in animal models and cell culture — written for general education.

Nothing on this site is medical advice. Reading our pages does not create a clinician–patient relationship of any kind. Animal-model research does not establish the safety or efficacy of any compound in humans, and the peptides discussed here are laboratory research subjects, not medicines, supplements, or ingredients we endorse. No compound discussed on this site is recommended for human use, in any form, for any purpose.

If you have questions about your health, your medications, or any substance you are considering, take them to a qualified clinician who can examine you and knows your history. Do not bring our articles to that conversation as evidence; bring them, at most, as an account of what the animal literature contains and where it stops.

Editorial Ethics & Corrections

Sourcing

Our summaries are based on published, retrievable literature that a member of the staff has read in full. We describe studies generically — model, species, era, research lineage — rather than inventing citation apparatus, and we do not cite work we have not read. When we are uncertain of a specific result, we say so and describe the research area instead.

Conflicts

No contributor may hold a financial interest in, accept payment from, or accept materials from any entity that sells or supplies research compounds. Staff disclose outside employment; relevant disclosures appear with the byline when they intersect with a topic.

Advertising and Sponsored Content

We accept no advertising and no sponsorship, and we have never published sponsored content. There is no commercial arrangement of any kind behind any article on this site. This ban is categorical and permanent; it is the load-bearing wall of the publication's credibility.

Corrections Process

Report suspected errors to corrections@fieldstandard.review. Verified errors are corrected in place with a dated note appended to the article and an entry in our corrections ledger, which our copy chief maintains. The original wording is never silently erased. If we review a claim and find the text accurate, we reply in writing with our reasoning. Corrections correspondence is retained as part of the editorial record.

Accessibility Statement

We want every reader to be able to read us. The site is built to work without JavaScript, with semantic markup, visible focus states, sufficient color contrast, text alternatives for every photograph, and layouts that hold together when text is enlarged. It respects reduced-motion preferences.

Accessibility is maintenance, not a milestone, and we are certain some barriers remain. If you encounter one — a page your screen reader mangles, a contrast failure, a caption that fails to carry its weight — write to hello@fieldstandard.review with the page and the problem. Accessibility reports go to the front of the corrections queue.
